The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) is an internationally renowned professional institution whose members are involved at all levels in the design, construction, repair and operation of ships, boats and marine structures. Members of the RINA are widely represented in industry, universities and colleges, and maritime organisations in over 90 countries.

RINA enjoys an outstanding reputation for the quality and range of its technical publications, covering all aspects of naval architecture and the maritime industry.

RINA also organises an extensive and successful programme of international conferences, seminars and training courses covering a broad range of experience and opinion on research, development and operation of all aspects of naval architecture and maritime technology.
Founded in 1860 to "...advance the art and science of Naval Architecture... ", The Royal Institution of Naval Architects has since developed into a world renowned and highly respected international professional institution and learned society.

The Royal Institution of Naval Architects exists to promote and serve the interests and needs of its members, who are involved at all levels in the design, construction, repair and operation of ships, boats and marine structures. RINA has members in over 80 countries, and is widely represented in industry, universities and colleges, and maritime organisations.

RINA Headquarters are at 10 Upper Belgrave Street , London . As well as containing the Institution's offices, the building holds the Weir Lecture Hall and the Denny Library.

Membership - Membership of RINA is international, reflecting the global nature of naval architecture and the maritime industry, and provides access to the wide range of benefits and services which RINA is able to offer.

There are classes of RINA membership to suit all those involved or interested in naval architecture and maritime technology. The classes of membership reflect the education, training, experience and professional responsibility achieved. Membership of RINA and the right to use the letters FRINA, MRINA, AMRINA or ARINA after a member's name demonstrates the achievement of internationally recognised standards of professional competence, and implies professional integrity and high standards of practice governed by the Institution's Code of Professional Conduct.

Initial Professional Development - RINA accredits university, college, company and individual academic and training courses, and offers advice on how best to pursue Careers in naval architecture. A number of scholarships, prizes and awards are available.

Continuing Professional Development - RINA provides advice and assistance to members in achieving their Continuing Professional Development objectives through its range of technical publications, and the conferences, seminars, workshops and training courses which it organises.

Branches - RINA has many Branches worldwide, which organise professional, technical and social events for the benefit of local members, providing an opportunity to meet and exchange views with other industry professionals. Members of the Institution are automatically members of their local Branch and are kept informed of events, many of which are open to non-members.

Specialist Groups - A number of groups and committees cover specialist interests, including Small Craft, High Speed Craft, Safety, Offshore & Ocean Engineering and Historical matters. Specialist groups and committees are active in sponsoring conferences, technical papers and meetings, and advising international and national maritime organisations and agencies. RINA is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) with the International Maritime Organisation.

Publications - RINA publishes a range of technical journals, conference proceedings, transactions, and books, covering all aspects of naval architecture and the maritime industry, and available free or at a discount to members.

Events - RINA organises a programme of international conferences, workshops and training courses, covering a broad range of experience and opinion on research, development and operation on all aspects of naval architecture and maritime technology. Members enjoy preferential rates to all RINA events.
